Colorimeter

A device for measuring color that reports color as a set of colorimetric values.

Description

Generally colorimeters use three or four sensors for measuring color. Three of the sensors have filters that approximate the spectral sensitivities of the human visual system. The fourth sensor is used to measure light intensity. The most common use of colorimeters is for calibrating and profiling displays. At one time colorimeters were very popular as low-cost alternatives to spectrometers.
